MCH is the newest addition to the Garonga Safari Co. family. As a canvas tented camp, it embodies authentic safari style, yet has the added luxuries that make it a signature ‘safari for the soul’ experience.
MCH offers family or friend groups a private and intimate bush getaway, perfect for extended stays. If not booked out for a group, individual couples are welcome to make it home for their luxury safari stay. Perched on a kopje (little hill), you can revel in panoramic views of the wild Makalali and Drakensberg Mountains beyond. The four tents offer air-conditioning and WiFi. They are fully en-suite with sumptuous bathtub and indoor and outdoor showers. Each features a well-stocked bar and indoor lounge that flows outside onto a private deck.

A proudly fully solar powered and self-contained camp, MCH has its own team of staff, game drive vehicle and guide for an exclusive Big 5 safari. A private Sleep Out Deck experience awaits the adventurous too. The main camp offers indoor and outdoor dining areas, along with the MCH Bush Boma and fire-pit designed to pair with delicious pre-dinner drinks.
After the morning and evening safari activities, you can laze by the pool, be pampered at the MCH Massage Sala or snuggle up with a good book by the library fireplace. For those who can’t leave the office behind, the library is equipped with WiFi, a working desk with PC and photocopier.
Enjoy a night under the stars on our safari Sleep Out Deck, complete with four-poster bed and dining table for two. A 20-minute drive from the main camp, you will be fully immersed in your natural surrounds overlooking a waterhole that is known to attract a visitor or two.
Pure relaxation awaits you in our safari spa, the Massage Sala. Unwind and breathe deeply during a massage within the therapeutic natural setting in the bush.
Fulfil your safari dreams with twice daily game drives led by our experienced and knowledgeable guides. In addition to the Big 5 (elephant, leopard, rhino, buffalo and lion), look out for cheetah, spotted hyenas, wild dogs, hippos, crocodiles, diverse plains animals and colourful birdlife.
Let our resident chefs spoil you with their unique creations combining traditional dishes with international influences. Not forgetting the rich afternoon teas, fresh light lunches and indulgent breakfast spreads which, after your morning game drive, you will be able to tuck straight into.
Stretch those legs and take a walking safari or ‘solitude walk’ with one of our experienced guides/trackers. Get that bit closer to nature and take the time to notice the beauty that lies in the detail of the surrounding bush. You also never know what you might bump into.
Take flight for an unforgettable view of the Makalali Reserve. Soar above enchanting wildlife, scenery and the majestic Drakensberg Mountains.

Help for Heroes, a UK Charity, is the main charity Garonga supports. Garonga will contribute 5% off every direct booking to H4H, and offer wider support to the charity. If you would like to know more about the vital work which directly supports the armed forces community, visit www.helpforheroes.org.uk. Please support as best you can – these men and women are living with the impact of their service and still desperately need your help.
Game drives are at the heart of the Garonga experience, allowing you to encounter the Big 5 and other wildlife up close. Your stay will typically include a morning and afternoon game drive in our open-air Land Rovers. Two of our experienced and qualified guides will lead you through the bush, impressing you with their knowledge of the great variety of wildlife in the reserve. Their tracking skills are exceptional, giving them the advantage of locating animals based on their recent movements and enabling your safari sightings dreams to come true. On a morning game drive, as the animals are waking up, tuck into tea, coffee and snacks in the bush. Then, in the late afternoon, sip on a cocktail or glass of wine as the sun slowly dips below the horizon. In addition to the Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino), look out for cheetah, spotted hyena, black rhino, African wild dog, hippos, crocodiles, diverse plains animals and colourful birdlife.
