MCH Sleepout – “The Kipper”

This is the ultimate bush sleep out deck experience in South Africa. While your luxury tent remains your home for the duration of your stay, the sleep out deck is a one-night experience for the adventurous at adventurous at heart.

A lantern-lit dinner table for two and a four-poster bed draped in a canopy of netting sets the scene for a night of romance and indulgence. Because the sleep out deck is elevated off the ground, you are perfectly safe while you experience the Makalali from a different perspective. Fall asleep to the nocturnal sounds of the bush below; wake up to the warm glow of sunrise.

Sleep under the stars

After your late afternoon game drive, your guide will take you straight to the sleep out deck instead of going back to camp. You will be briefed on how to use the two-way radio should you want to contact the lodge at any time. Your guide will set out your planned cooked dinner and drinks, before leaving you to your private night in the wilderness.

 
 

Wake up with the sun

Then, as the sun rises the following morning, you will get to enjoy it from the comfort of your bed with a cup of coffee or tea in hand. The sleep out deck also has an en-suite shower and toilet so you can freshen up for the day ahead. Your guide will pick you up and together you head out for the morning drive.

It is highly recommended that you include this special experience in your itinerary. Please note, that guests will need to book this activity in advance of arrival.

Safari Camp

Game drives are at the heart of the Garonga experience, allowing you to encounter the Big 5 and other wildlife up close. Your stay will typically include a morning and afternoon game drive in our open-air Land Rovers. Two of our experienced and qualified guides will lead you through the bush, impressing you with their knowledge of the great variety of wildlife in the reserve. Their tracking skills are exceptional, giving them the advantage of locating animals based on their recent movements and enabling your safari sightings dreams to come true. On a morning game drive, as the animals are waking up, tuck into tea, coffee and snacks in the bush. Then, in the late afternoon, sip on a cocktail or glass of wine as the sun slowly dips below the horizon. In addition to the Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino), look out for cheetah, spotted hyena, black rhino, African wild dog, hippos, crocodiles, diverse plains animals and colourful birdlife.
