Hello Comrades; Capitalism is over and so had better start charming the Commies! What a horlicks. Greedy Bankers. Could be a nice change coming their way when and if this is all over.

Well Good old George B. getting the taxpayers to haul the Fat Cats out of the pan. I bet that’s gone down like a lead balloon! Somehow this will all play into Obama’s hands, and we’ll have all those nice Socialists from “The Hill” running the world. I noticed on CNN on the day of remembrance for 9/11 that the newscaster was reminding us all of how “They died”. They didn’t die, they were murdered! BBC news using the same language but it’s normal for that lot. Send them and Polly Toynbee off to N.Korea; they would really revel in that place.

UK –well all the party politics at the Conferences is now over. It’s like Theatre. Nothing mentioned by GB about security and the lack of defence spending and all that. There’s not really much left if you can’t protect yourself. I bet he calls an election soon, now that there is “fear” in the country. Not may people like to change a Govt. whilst there is a “Huge problem” hanging over the Country. He will hardly wait for the news to get better as it may not. So now “Mandy” is back for the 3rd time; two times of being kicked out = a welcome back. What a signal that sends! So the French couldn’t beat us at Agincourt, and so they take over our Nuclear power programme! What’s next!

Then there’s the ongoing war in Afghanistan. So a Brit Commander says what is “really happening” and gets castigated by the Yanks for it. Like in all terrorist wars eventually both sides have sat down and talked. Eventually it will happen, and so it’s a case of how long does the suffering continue before Egos are melted. It doesn’t mean “Surrender” ; as long as one ideology does not dominate! So the troopies have had a number of casualties, no longer reported by the Media (Obviously a ban put on by the MOD). Not to say that there haven’t been numerous successes as well. Cross Border raids in to Pakistan seem to be a regular thing now. It worked very well in the bush wars in Rhodesia and South Africa, and of course Israel. Keep them on the run!

Propaganda talk is over (relief, I hear you sigh)! It has been pretty bloody hot here – reached 45 degrees one day. Anyway September was a good month for Safari Camp with a respectable 63% occupancy, although Little Garonga only 10%. It was a warm welcome back to Philip and Gerti from Wait a Little Horse Safaris (neighbours) who came over with Guests for a Horse Safari for their 3 nights. Great fun and as usual a number of very sore heads. So much so that I had to go into town for a meeting with a lawyer, and he brought me back to the Camp as he had to interview some people. I had to ask him to stop twice on the way back! Just don’t get the message – I know! Then also welcome back to Carol, Mandy and Thaine. A visit from a very valued supporter, Southern Destinations, in the form of Jason. Thanks for the check out and the support. Many congratulations to Kelly and Penelope for “Tying the Knot” here at Garonga. A very nice service done by Pierre on the Umbrella deck near Dusk time. Also to all Honeymooners – great having you and wishing you all the best. Don’t forget the Lions Rugby Tour next year – that always seems to test relationships!

As I said it has been very hot indeed and so far no rains to date, and so the Bush and some of the animals are looking a bit worse for wear. The safari teams have performed brilliantly with some awesome sightings. Five leopard sightings in the month – 4 were in the space of 10 days. Plenty of Lion, Cheetah, Ellie, Rhino (although still playing hard to get), and plains game. The ellies have been over here a number of times on Garonga, which is unusual in this dry time. And, yes, the Bulls are doing what they do best and “moving the furniture” normally over/across a major road/track. They have that sort of twinkle in their eye, and you can almost hear them giggling; or maybe it’s my “morning after the night before”! Not so many walks now due to the heat but still happening as and when Guests would like to.

Now that we are in practically summer, reveille is at 0500 hrs! Enjoy the siestas during the day! Sleep outs have been happening with regular occurrence – 6 in a row once.

On the Kitchen front, Koren has now moved on. She was going to the UK, but apparently her visa was refused. I think there’s something going on there between SA and UK which seems to be causing this “Rift”. Sad to see her go after her excellent food. In steps Debbie who has taken over and settled in. Has been very helpful still having Annabel here for one more month. Some very interesting menus and brilliant presentations all happening. Picnics are back with a vengeance. So another recipe to test. Enjoy it.
Not much else happening, although I have got in a great selection of SA Wines. An extra 80 Bottles! Please do give them a go, even if the House Wine is so quaffable. The two new Cheetah are due in a few days – depends on the heat. Although I hate naming animals it does apparently help the research teams. So was thinking of Browning and Purdey; what do you think?

Listen, tighten your belts, but have a good one out there. Come and Visit.

All the best
Bernie
